SceneVR is one of several tools developed by Northwestern University’s Knight Lab. Scene is an easy-to-use online platform that allows users to create VR scenes using panoramas or 360° photographs. Scene however takes this one step further and encourages users to enhance these VR scenes with surrounding narratives, making immersive imagery into a means of story-telling. SceneVR runs in the browser. Stories created with the tool can be viewed on desktop, on mobile devices and with VR devices without the need for any extra apps or plugins.
Why Use Scene?
- 3D imagery may certainly pique a user’s interest but can also be a powerful way to present information. The sample available on the SceneVR homepage, for example, allows users to witness the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in an immersive way.
- 360° photography of overseas study experiences can form the basis of activities in which students write narratives or descriptions of the scenes depicted.
