ELAN

ELAN (EUDICO Linguistic Annotator) is an annotation tool for audio and video recordings that allows you to create, edit, visualize and search annotations on audio and visual media. Developed at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, Nijmegen, The Netherlands, ELAN is particularly well-suited to the analysis of languages, sign languages, and gestures, but can also be used more generally with video and/or audio data, for purposes of annotation, analysis and documentation.

Why Use ELAN?

  • ELAN is desktop software, available for Mac, Windows, and Linux and offers features such as annotation tiers and links between annotations, that online video annotation tools might not offer.
  • Annotations can be exported as tab-delineated text files for use in visualization tools or for other analysis.
